THE FOUNDATIONS OF PAIN MANAGEMENT

Mike Carberry

Many patients believe the foundation to pain management lies within surgery and pharmaceuticals. Though these treatments have their limited role in managing pain, they are simply not the solution. The cornerstone of integrated care lies in the combination of rehab, chiropractic, injections, bracing and innovative treatments.

Let’s think of a car; if you have a flat tire, the demand of the situation appears to be the one at hand. However, if the car is misaligned, fixing the tire won’t prevent the problem from happening again. In fact, a misaligned car will only cause your tires to wear unevenly, leading to more frequent replacements.

Similarly, if a patient’s pain is caused by misalignment or imbalance in their body, treating the symptoms won’t offer lasting relief. The carshop in this case – rehab, chiropractic and other comprehensive treatments. Together, these modalities can address the underlying issues causing pain and discomfort, rather than putting a Band-Aid on the symptoms.

Rehab will focus on strengthening the body while improving range of motion. This will help to correct imbalances and prevent future injuries. On the other hand, chiropractic focuses on adjusting the spine and other joints to ensure proper alignment and mobility of the joints, leading the body to function optimally.

Collectively, these procedures create a strong foundation for integrated care by addressing the root cause of pain rather than just the symptom. With these methods, patients can experience long-term relief and improved overall health.

That is not to say traditional therapies such as surgery and pharmaceuticals don’t play a role in pain management. It is important to remember these treatments should be the last resort, not the first type of treatment tried. Without a strong foundation of rehab and chiropractic, patients may find themselves constantly chasing after quick fixes and temporary relief.

At Advanced Medical Integration, we understand the importance of a well-rounded, integrated approach to managing pain. That’s why we offer a range of services designed to work together, including rehab, chiropractic and integrated physical medicine, just to name a few. By addressing the root cause of pain and discomfort, rather than the symptoms, we help our patients achieve lasting relief and improved overall health.
