How Medical Integration Differs from Multi-Disciplinary Clinics
I want to talk to you today about the difference between Medical Integration and Multi-Disciplinary Clinics.
When I first started everybody was calling it multi-discipline, or they called it MDDC, meaning the medical doctor, chiropractor. The integrated word for us is the most accurate one. A multi-discipline practice means that you have medical professionals, doctors, chiropractors, medical doctors, nurse practitioners, PAs, osteopaths all working in the same practice. You have different licenses working in the same practice under the same roof. That’s multi-discipline.
Integrated means different licenses working as a team on the same patient. That’s different. We teach, and we’ve always done an integrated model. Let me tell you where it comes from…
I got married while I was in Chiropractic school. My wife was a Physical Therapist whose specialty was treating traumatic brain injury and stroke rehab. Most of the patients arrived in a coma, and the first thing to do was to bring them out of the coma. They would do this by working as a team consisting of a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, a cognitive therapist all working on the same patient under the direction of a Physiatrist, who is an MD specializing in physical medicine.
I would pick her up from work and would hear the team discussing a particular patient. I realized the value in having the input of several other allied professionals evaluating the case and recommending the optimum treatment plan. When I graduated and set up my first clinic I brought together a team of professionals who would do the same with each of my patients and we had stellar results in creating healthy, pain free patients from the collaboration effort and utilization of each modality of treatment as needed.
The Integrated model is the answer to America’s Healthcare problem, as the emphasis is on pain relief, treatment and cure without drugs or invasive surgery.
I have had three fully integrated clinics in various states, treating over 700 patients a week.

As an integrated team, our goal is to cure the whole patient, and our varied specialties give us a broad viewpoint of the whole treatment spectrum.
